Message to the Spring '97 Intro CAD class. For the first time ever, the Intro CAD class will gather and publish student work on an archival multimedia CD-ROM.
The CD-ROM is being designed by Katrin Kaldin who is taking Laura Reuwee's class, the Architecture of Information, which deals with such concepts as interface design. The multimedia authoring tool, mTropolis will be used to combine your still images, animations, QuickTimeVR panoramas, with text, sound and other elements.
All indications are that the completed work of the current Intro CAD class will be exceptional. We are scheduling special sessions on Monday night, May 5, as well as another evening this week (TBA), to make sure you get all the help you need. Please contact the TAs if you need extra help. Remember to check the web site regularly to make sure that your work is showing up as it should. Report problems to Max and Jeremy.
The deadline of Thursday, May 8 is essential to ensure that the media files are ready to incorporate into the CD-ROM.
The CD-ROM will be available at cost to all students in the class. A preliminary version will be shown at 6 PM Monday evening, May 12, in Room 114 Avery, at the final exhibition of work from all three computer classes (Advanced CAD, Intro and Architecture of Information). Refreshments will be served--I hope you will attend the party.
The CD-ROM will also be shown at the Year-end Exhibition, and distributed to the Dean and certain members of the Press and architectural community.
Please take a look at this web page where some of the best work is archived:

If you feel some of your best work has gone unnoticed and deserves to be on this page, please send me a message.
Final grades are based on your work as it appears on the class web page and the class CD-ROM. In addition, your final color print (on paper) and your own web page will be reviewed.
MIDTERM: Assignments One through Five will be graded on Thursday evening, March 27. Only work submitted by 9 PM Thursday night is guaranteed to be published in the class web galleries. A "snapshot" of your personal page in the class gallery (with "thumbnails" of assignments 1 thru 5) will be printed. This will serve as a record of the status of your work as of mid term and will be an important factor in the final grades. It is your responsibility to contact the TAs if your work is not showing up properly in the galleries. Personal homepages will also be reviewed.
To receive a Pass at the end of the semester, Assignments 1 to 5 must be complete at midterm.
